Kurita's DReeM Polymer™, Which Contributes to Reducing CO2 Emissions by Improving and Maintaining Boiler Efficiency, Wins Environmental Technology Award in the 49th Technology Award Hosted by the Japan Chemical Industry Association.

Kurita Water Industries Ltd. (Head Office: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; President: Michiya Kadota) is pleased to announce that it won the Environmental Technology Award at the 49th JCIA Technology Award hosted by the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA).

Kurita won the award for DReeM Polymer™, a multi-functional polymer that contributes to customer's energy saving by keeping boiler facilities continuously cleaned.

DReeM Polymer™ is an innovative material of water treatment chemicals that has a scale(*1) removal effect in addition to the existing scale dispersion effect present in other chemicals used for boiler water treatment. In addition to quickly removing scale adhered to heat-transfer pipes of boilers, thereby maintaining the heat transfer rate, the material enables reuse of steam condensed water and other water containing scale components such as calcium, as boiler feedwater. This enables a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

The JCIA Technology Award is a program for commending business operators who have contributed to the development of the chemical industry and the economy by developing or industrializing outstanding chemical technologies. With DReeM Polymer™, remarkable reductions in environmental impact can be achieved, and this was evaluated as having contributed to the progress of science and technology.

Since the launch and commencement of sales in 2014, boiler water treatment chemicals compounded with DReeM Polymer™ have been delivered to more than 200 new customers per year. At present, more than 1,000 customers in Japan have adopted them. They have also been delivered to increasing numbers of overseas customers, particularly in ASEAN countries. Moving forward, Kurita will aim to expand sales globally, including North America and China.

Encouraged by the Environmental Technology Award, Kurita will step up its efforts to promote sales of DReeM Polymer™ to reduce customers' environmental impact and solve their water-related issues.

*1 Scale:
Solids of calcium and silica etc. that precipitate and adhere inside the boiler. It leads to significant reductions in heat transfer, fuel efficiency, and the boiler's durability.
