Kurita Newly Selected as Constituent of Stock Indexes for ESG Investing

Kurita Water Industries Ltd. (headquartered in Nakano-ku, Tokyo; Michiya Kadota, President; hereinafter "Kurita") has been newly selected as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series and the FTSE Blossom Japan Index, stock indexes designed for ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) investing.

Kurita was also selected as a constituent of the MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders Index, the MSCI World ESG Leaders Index, the MSCI Japan Empowering Women (WIN) Select Index and the SNAM Sustainability Index again this year.

These Indexes are widely used as important criteria by investors around the world who focus on corporate ESG initiatives. The FTSE Blossom Japan Index and the MSCI Japan Empowering Women (WIN) Select Index have been selected as indexes for ESG investing by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).

Summaries of ESG investment indexes

■FTSE4Good Index Series

This index has been developed by FTSE Russell, a global index provider in the United Kingdom. It consists of companies demonstrating strong ESG practices, selected based on ESG performance assessments of more than 4,000 companies in 47 countries, including developed and emerging countries.

■FTSE Blossom Japan Index

This index has been developed by FTSE Russell. It consists of Japanese companies, which satisfy a broad range of ESG assessment criteria among the constituents of the parent index (FTSE Japan Index).

■MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders Index

This index has been developed by MSCI Inc., a global index provider in the United States. It consists of companies with strong results in ESG performance assessment, which have been selected from among the constituents of the parent index (MSCI ACWI Index) that contains companies in 23 developed countries and 26 emerging countries.

■MSCI World ESG Leaders Index

This index has been developed by MSCI Inc. It consists of companies with strong results in ESG performance assessment, which have been selected from among the constituents of the parent index (MSCI World Index), which contains companies in 23 developed countries.

■MSCI Japan Empowering Women (WIN) Select Index

This index has been developed by MSCI Inc. It consists of companies selected from among the constituents of the MSCI Japan IMI Top 500 Index, based on data concerning the employment of women which companies publicly disclose in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplace, in addition to their policies concerning gender diversity and other information.

■SNAM Sustainability Index

This index has been developed by Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SNAM). It consists of companies that are uniquely selected by focusing on the results of their ESG performance assessment, based on their responses to the "Buna-no-mori Environmental Questionnaire" (Environmental) conducted by Sompo Risk Management Inc. and the "IntegreX Survey" (Social and Governance) conducted by Integrex Inc.
