Message from the President

"Creating More Value Out of Our Precious Water"

The Earth we live on is often referred to as a “planet of water.” The abundant supply of water on this planet has nurtured countless individual lives and civilizations. At present, however, against the backdrop of global economic growth and increased world population, we are facing a range of issues concerning water, such as water shortages and water pollution.

Water is a finite resource. However, as part of the natural system, it circulates through the Earth, cycling through a variety of forms, such as rainfall, rivers, and oceans. By approaching water-related problems with this in mind, we find the key to solving our problems: we need to concentrate on the flow of water rather than on the stock of water. In other words, what we should focus on is not the scarcity of water but how we can use the water resources circulating through the Earth in a sustainable manner. It is critical to ensure the optimal management of all water flows so that water of appropriate quality and quantity is available whenever and wherever it is needed. We believe that doing so will eventually help solve the water-related problems faced by the global community.

For over a half-century since its founding in 1949, Kurita has contributed to the development of society and industry as a leading company in the field of water treatment. The corporate philosophy of the Kurita Group is to “Study the properties of water, master them, and we will create an environment in which nature and man are in harmony.” In line with that philosophy, we are firmly committed to fulfilling our mission: addressing and contributing to the resolution of emerging global issues concerning water. Based on this commitment, working mainly in the field of industrial water, the Kurita Group aims to provide its customers with a range of water management solutions that bring new value. For example, we offer water reclamation solutions, which directly help customers to reduce their environmental impact and improve their productivity. In addition, we contribute to creating new water resources by recycling wastewater from factories so that it can be used again in the same industrial processes. The Kurita Group has technologies in a wide range of water-related fields, including water treatment chemicals and facilities. Moreover, we have abundant expertise and know-how, which we have accumulated through our facility operation and maintenance services, and the ability to build systems that meet the diverse needs of customers. We will make combined use of these strengths to provide our customers with even more advanced water reclamation solutions, thereby delivering more new value.

At present, the Kurita Group is in the middle year of its three-year medium-term management plan, “MP-11” (Make Progress 2011), which was launched in April 2009. Issues regarding water resources have been taking on greater importance. We will respond to this by creating new value and ensuring that we meet the needs of our customers and society at large through the kind of water management solutions that only Kurita can provide. Under the slogan, “Creating more value out of our precious water,” we will strive to grow our Group in step with society as we continue to explore the infinite possibilities of water.
